Drsuessoh-the-places-youll-go-redI love the book “The Places You’ll Go” by Dr Seuss! It is quite an adventure!

There is a lot of truth in that little book. (Oh yeah, you can tell I have kids.)

There is great excitement and hope as the journey begins…

 “Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And you
know what you know. And
YOU are the gal who’ll decide where to go.

But as you go a little farther into the story you see the storyline change.

You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have the speed.
You’ll pass the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you’ll be best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
Except when you don’t. Because, sometimes, you won’t.

I’m sorry to say so but, sadly, it’s true, that Bang-ups
and Hang-ups can happen to you.

Exhausted-woman-imagesThe real deal is, we can all get stuck! And as he says in the book, it can be hard “Un-stucking Yourself!”

And that’s really the worst part, isn’t it? It’s not being able to “Un-stuck Yourself”!

Yes, after awhile you get so lost and confused that you start playing “The Waiting Game”.

Most of the time the “Waiting Game” is prolonged by “approach avoidance”. You get busy with urgent things that in the long run may not really be as important as you think. Or as Anthony Robbins says, we get stuck in a pattern of “majoring in minor things”. You rationalize why you can’t take action and why “now” is not a good time. Just too busy “trying to make a living”, driving kids to their events” or bla, bla, bla.

You rationalize why you are overweight, and you feel depressed. You start to retreating and closing yourself off and your world gets smaller and smaller. Day after day goes by then month after month,  years or even decades go by.

You can get so confused that you’ll start in to race down
long wiggled roads at a break-necking pace and grind on
for miles across weirdish wild space, headed, I fear,
toward a most useless place.

Drsuesswaiting-placeThe Waiting Place…for people just waiting.

Waiting for a train to go or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come or the rain to go or the phone to ring,
or the snow to snow or waiting around for a Yes or No or
waiting for their hair to grow. Everyone is just waiting.

NO! That’s not for you!
Somehow you’ll escape all that waiting and staying.
You’ll find the bright places where the Boom Bands are
playing. With banner flip-flapping, once more you’ll ride
high! Ready for anything under the sky. Ready because
you’re that kind of a guy! (Or girl!)

Oh, the places you’ll go! There is fun to be done!

Years can be wasted playing the “Waiting Game” but we only have so many years left!

“If you love life, don’t waste time, because time is what life is made of”
— Ben Franklin

Woman-reget-imagesMaybe you should consider taking a step back from the grindstone and taking care of everybody else for a minute and giving yourself permission to dream. Maybe permission to do something for just you.

To “Un-Stuck Yourself”, you will need to do something different.

One of the saddest things is to get to the end of your life and realize that you only lived a tenth of the life you could have had.

Allow yourself to dream of a future that inspires you! A compelling future!
