WESTCHASE - Women can get a boost to those resolutions to lose weight with help from the Adventure Boot Camp.

Back for a second year, the boot camp is a four-week program aimed at helping women change exercise habits to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle.

"This isn't a military-style boot camp. We try to make this fun," said John Kent, a certified boot camp instructor.

Kent said the camp incorporates light weights and interval training with games and obstacle courses. He said all fitness levels can participate.

"Women trying to lose weight often feel isolated," Kent said. "This is a healthy way to socialize with other women who have the same goals."

The camp meets daily Monday through Friday for an hour at 5:30 a.m. at Westchase Elementary at 9517 W. Linebaugh Ave.

"I call it the no excuse hour," Ken said. "You rarely have anything going on at that time so you can always work out. Plus, it motivates you to go to bed early. No good usually comes from eating or drinking after 10 p.m."

Chris Roberson, 46, said she was not overly motivated to join the camp at first, fearing the other campers would judge her.

"The majority of the ladies were in far better shape than I, but were friendly," the Odessa resident said. "John was an absolute delight. He gave an alternative for every exercise that we did and I made it through my first hour of boot camp feeling exhausted yet hopeful that I could do this."

Kent said participants will also learn how to change their lifestyles and communicate these changes with friends and family to stay on track.

Campers also receive customized meal plans and shopping lists. New campers also are invited to a one-hour orientation.

The camp costs $14.95 per session and sign-up information is available at www.bootcamprocks.com or by calling
